Practical tips
- Prefer the official deadline on the institute page over any aggregator summary.
- Some calls close at midnight local time — check the time zone and whether the portal timestamps upload completion or “submit click”.
- “Open until filled” still needs a strong early application; shortlists often form in the first weeks.
- Build a personal calendar with buffer days for references and diploma recognition.
- Expired singles may remain visible for reference; do not treat them as open calls.
Reference letters and portal lag
Many marine doctoral calls require two or three academic references. Ask writers before you open the portal — some systems email referees only after you submit, and late letters can void an otherwise complete file. Keep PDF transcripts and language certificates ready; last-day uploads fail more often than early ones.
